You'll probably want to see if you can upload your picture into the forum rather than linking to imgur...most people here won't click on external links. That being said...

Looks like maybe a coin dish...or pin dish. What are the dimensions? Is a magnet attracted to it? Can you post any additional pictures of the back or underside? I'd probably guess Chinese on this.

Interesting. I have a similar soap dish, taller and thinner "cat" and the dish is scallop-shaped. Purchased at a higher end "gifty/decor" shop in the 90's.

Some years ago I was given something very similar as a business card holder.

    The statue is not magnetic
Roughly 11" high from ears to feet
I also have not found any markings that would indicate its origin or maker.

Could be bronze... no idea how old but I don't think its new as in the last 30 years or so. I think older than that ... maybe a lot older. It isn't a famous sculpture or anything or even very artistically done but it's a cool little cat statue. I'm definitely not an expert though so hopefully someone will know more.

No, it's probably cast aluminum with bronze coating or cast iron.
Sold as card or soap dish. I still have one that I ordered from the wholesaler about 8 years ago. Mine's just a little different. Sits on a base and the tray on mine is oval not round.
I think I retailed them out for around 40-50, but don't quote me as my memory is not as good as it used to be.

I don't think it's cast iron as he said it is not attracted to a magnet.

The statue also seems to have something in it, when shaken it sounds like something small is bouncing around inside, like a bead.

Probably just a bit of metal casting that has broken off inside.

On mine, the tray is a fish. The friend who gave it to me, maybe 20 years ago, liked to shop at Takashimaya, also an upscale gift store. I have no doubt they are modern, meant to look like they've been excavated somewhere, & probably not even copies of something ancient.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Yes, I've seen a very similar design sold as a business card holder. That was a mass-produced modern one. Not sure what this one is.

All I could hear when I saw this was "Please Sir may have some more fish?" Of course a real cat wouldn't pick up the dish. It would just come over and dig some claws into your leg. "Human, my dish is empty. Fill it."

Not exactly the same, but pretty close.
