    Hi All,
I decided to tackle a box of buttons that I've had kicking around for many years. Here are four pairs that I'm wondering about. Would it be best to sell them together or separate? I think these all have some age to them, probably early 1900s.
    Any information appreciated.
    Thanks for looking

#1 - these are marked AP & Co Paris on the back, what is the centre piece made of? These are not cleaned, but there is a bit of a shine that come through. You can see a line through part of one of them, maybe shell or stone?

#2 are bees or flies - would these have been for men or women?
DSCF3259.jpg #3&4 both have horseshoes - would these have been for men or women?

#1 - From the stripey one, look like cut from shell & meant to resemble pearls.
    #2 - Bees
    #3&4 - Either

    Nice!
Not old really but I just got some snowflake buttons and I know I have some jets and others...somewhere. Long ago I bought a bunch of jets that had been made into pins and gave some away for Christmas back then. I must have more.
I have a set of red, white and blue tennis buttons I was going to put up on eBidet too.

you could give them a soft cloth...if there's any grime......or shine them up if they're going on YOUR sweater.....!!

    a book on buttons?
show them here is you like! They won't sell if you don't list them:)
Yes, I'll give them a wipe as there is some grime on them.

Yep. Wouldn't assume it's safe to soak them the way I do most cameos, & for collectors no doubt better to leave the metal as is, but can't hurt to bring up the lustre a little. This is a case where a speck of toothpaste might be helpful, rubbed in & wiped off with a soft cloth.

Yes. It’s quite an old book. It’s been packed away for years now but I knew it was a score when found. :)

I think I showed them once before. But I will if I can find them soon. Nothing spectacular. I bought them to sell. They may be 40s to 60s.
I’ll shoor the snowflakes tomorrow and maybe more. :)

I can’t ring up the author’s name though I seem to recall it may have been by two people.
I say old, and though I do suggest antique, it may not quite be 100.
    It may be 30s - 40s.

The only 'bible' on buttons is Hughes & Lester's 'The Big Book of Buttons', over 800 pages, first published in 1981, I have the second edition (packed away at the moment), published in 1991, and there was a revised third edition (2 volumes, over 1100 pages), published in 2010. They're all pricey, I bought mine at wholesale from the vendor when it came out and they only offered it at 10% off cover price...

I got two volumes of buttons with family crests, but only the french, and it is not complete...
Expensive too, but I was lucky to get them for free, from a lady on a french antiques forum who knew the publisher...
The die's you can see here on the back of the books, where bought from me by the authors, many years before....
