I found this large stoneware lidded pot in the latest clearance, heavy with handles either side.

The oval mark suggests its made after 1870.
Its over 12 inches (30cm) tall.
I can't find a similar one on Google Images

    Any ideas?

I'm hoping it is not what I think it is.

LOL! It sure looks like what you're thinking it is! But it's interesting.

That's a bit odd. It ought to be the 1870 ish mark but those don't normally have made in England on them. C3 is the size, egg or butter or lard crock. I'll dig out the proper Doulton Lambeth book tomorrow, it may be in that. Those white glazed items are usually food or medical.

It is not a pot to piss in. ;)

Not a slop, pig or waste bucket, it would have been hard to carry and heavy. Those were generally metal - zinc say. It's no use for composting as it isn't aerated. The function of that white glazed stoneware was cooling.

I'll go get the Lambeth ware book.

OK, slight update. The mark is after 1899.

I still think this had my suggested domestic use, but interestingly, the form is that of an acid or chemical mixing urn. That's typical Doulton: repurpose that which was industrial.

davey, how many gallons does this take. Three, perchance?

This is what I mean by repurposing: have a look at the acid mixer.
