Picked this up on a whim at an estate sale just because it "felt right" The only marking on it is the VIGE stamped in the interior of the cup. Tested it for silver with a positive result. The only thing I was able to find were a couple of references to Iranian or thereabouts silver plate. Any ideas anyone? BTW it was all of .50 cents

Thanks Dave will continue my search. It seems there is a lot of confusion as to silver content of things marked "VIGE" with some stating its plate and others claiming coin or better. Also what exactly does VIGE mean?

Since we are on the topic of testing silver, I came across a very helpful video using the scraping method. It helped me to realize I was testing silver incorrectly in the past. I really like the method of scraping on the stone and then looking at the results on a clean tissue paper. If anyone is interested in seeing that message, click the YouTube video below and skip forward to the five-minute mark.
