Hello, im new here. Not sure if this forum is suitable for Chinese art but will give it a try. We been given two old paintings which belonged to my dad. I wanted to know more about them. One has two seal marks and the other last one has only one mark.
    Can somebody maybe read these?

    Thank yiu

So far they don't look valuable, so I think you are safe.

    By the way, welcome chantal.

Chantal, most Chinese paintings are not valuable. Therefore the value of a Chinese painting is rarely in the stamp, but in attractive art.
Right now everything about the work looks relatively recent. The 'JS' or 'J5' in the stamp confirms that, and the writing was not given much attention.
Just an example of old style calligraphy:
    Zheng Xie, 18th century.
You can tell the brush is pushed down on the paper and lifted at just the right moment.

We could ask one of our Chinese members, but because of the numerous Chinese translation requests, I really resent doing that for something that may be run of the mill and where a translation of the stamp doesn't add anything to the value.

If you don't want to show us the paintings, it is best to take them to an expert in Chinese art in your area.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Haven't I been told that images posted under General Discussion DO NOT get posted to the web.....who are the "WISE ONES" that can once again answer this??????

Maybe a not so wise one can answer too?:)
The general discussion is only accessible to members. I don't know if images posted there don't end up on the web somehow. And we have thousands of members....

One can find images of the Mona Lisa everywhere but they do nothing to detract from the value of the one and only original. I am not an expert on Asian art but the stamps and calligraphy look hurried and sloppy to my untrained eye.

    Hi,
I can with certain knowledge that the General discussion is not vetted by bots. One picture I posted asking on glassware is now everywhere. I have not seen another one EXCEPT for the photo that I sent here. I have found 9 different spots that has my photo of the item. The one item I was a little uncomfortable posting I put on the General Discussion and it has not been picked up by a bot.

General discussion is not vetted by bots......as far as I know also....
but a new member would not know that....and this one could be wary for a number of other reasons too.

It is probably you making them nervous. You do have a reputation! ;)

I apologize if I came off as flippant chantal. I can be a bit of a jack*ss at times.:( Many of us here tend to offer advice with a side dish of humor (some funny, some not so funny in retrospect:rolleyes:) here at times.

:joyful: It's okay komokwa, truth be told I have very much the same problem. I often find myself laughing then I realize that no one else in the room is laughing with me. Some of us are just blessed with a higher form of humor that others can't grasp!

Squirrels are always funny!!! Unless they are living your attic... I had one of those a couple of years ago. Me trying to get that freeloader to move out was funny though!!! That would be some viral video if someone had captured footage of me trying to access the corner she had chosen. I was fearful I was going to get stuck up there behind the walls and my husband would never find me!:joyful::joyful::joyful:

Don't worry about your reputation dear, we promise not to talk!:p:rolleyes:
