I've gotten awesome help with my bracelets, so I'll give this pin a shot. It's another unmarked piece - this time I couldn't find a mark no matter how hard I looked with my loupe. I made a close up of the only spot I could find that could be a mark, though it doesn't look like anything to me. I'm sure this is silver though based on feel and appearance. I believe it to be mid-century based on the design, but I'm not sure of that. Does it look like a one-of-a-kind craft piece, or is there a chance of finding out anything about it?

Yes, Modernist. The guitar looks Picasso-esque.
Sorry, can't help with the mark.

Machine made. Was thinking 60s - far out, man - but in looking at hinge & clasp, think a little earlier & go with AJ. Has a 50s feel to me.

@Jeff Drum you should try to determine if your piece is sterling or not. Nice find!!

Rebajes worked in copper and silver, so this is likely to be silver, but best check.

I guess I'll need to fill my bucket up with water and pull out my scale. I don't have access to a jeweler who can do a non-destructive test so I test specific gravity. Kind of a PITA to set up, so I test a few things at once.

Huh, I thought Rebajes was only copper jewelry. Good to know for future reference.

He did some silver too; the copper is more common, but the sterling turns up every so often.

Also found a dead ringer in copper with matching earrings. I would love to see another similar online in silver -- it is possible that the black in the front is not tarnish, but paint or similar, and intended to be black. Therefore you may want to skip the water bucket test and avoid attempting to polish that section.

It's almost certainly silver as others have suggested. Nice find!

Here is a Rebajes hair pin (sold) on Ebay with what looks like an intentional section of black:

The black may be blackened by the process of creating the pin. It looks like that until it's polished with jeweler's rouge or the like. I'd imagine it's safe in water. Just don't polish it off, whatever you do. It's supposed to be like that.

The piece appears to be handmade/hand crafted depending on what type of casting was used.
