Then try this on for size..........
    It's similar enough....
Maybe this wood one had a base......but i doubt it !!

the patina would suggest that it's made to look how Davey shows it to be..
and if one side of the pyramid was not cracked and opening that the center slide would sit perfectly at the top....offering a cheroot or ciggy !

The center piece should have a base that it is attached to, just like the ones in the link I provided above. You pick the triangle piece up, drop cigarettes on either side of the center piece inside it until full. When you want a cigarette, you'll lift the triangle piece up until a cigarette from either side of the divider falls into the slot, and then lower the triangle piece.

Without a base I would think the cigarettes would jam up that little center piece.

I did note that the curvature on the finished end of the slide would be good for holding/pushing a cigarette. But that just looks to me like a cigarette stand, not my idea of a dispenser. Useful if you only have one cigarette. How does this thing store more than one but present only one at a time? No matter how I work it, something is wrong. The slide or the cigarettes fall out, or that unfinished section of the slide shows much of the time. Have sent an inquiry to the person who tipped me off to the Bezalel School. If she doesn't know, she knows someone who does. Watch this space.

Point taken Kronos......the weight of the base wouls also have helped smooth operation.....this one must have lost the base long ago....

I freely admit that I skipped over your link while caught up reading other posts.....
You had the answer dead solid perfect.......!!!!!:happy::sorry::sorry::sorry::sorry:

Kronos got that explanation in while I was typing. Aha!

Once the cigarettes start feeding from lower down the pyramid, how do you know when one has fallen into the 'slot' (this confused me, it's the little trough at the top of the slide, no?) Do you have to peer down in there? And what moves the ones in the bottom corners over? It would all make more sense to me if the pyramid sat on its apex.

    I'm getting that way too!

I will try and find some crayons that might fit and video the results.
They are not nail holes in the base they are worm holes.
Everything made of wood in that shed and annexes has been attacked by woodworm.

Including these twenty two 1950`s wooden folding chairs, but I`ve managed to raise £180 for them.
All going to a good cause

Yes. Kronos had it right; that link shows pretty much how it works. I suspect that sometimes one got no ciggies, other times it jammed; but I bet most buyers were just looking for a souvenir, and not too concerned that it might not be a great cigarette dispenser.

IOW, someone bought a hangs-around looks-cute that also dispensed cigarettes when it was behaving itself.

The nail holes are on the bottom of the plunger. There had to be a plate on the bottom of the plunger or it wouldn't lift anything up out of the housing.
