Haven't been able to ID this little hammer. Medical? Any ideas?

It looks like a planishing/riveting hammer, but most have a wood handle.

I had no idea so I posted link to here on a machinist’s forum. One poster suggested it may be for de-icing horse’s hooves. Another (from Wales) remembered getting similar hammers in boxes of toffee. Here’s an Eboo auction for a collection of 28 Toffee hammers being sold by a man to help pay for the false teeth he needs.

If it had a typical wooden handle it'd likely be a metal-working hammer of some sort. Jeweler's, gunsmith's, etc.

Snow-knockers generally have a spike on one end. The candy store hammers also generally have a blade edge as well as a hammer poll. They normally have a bold maker's mark or advertising logo as well. Cigar box and crating hammers generally have a nail slot or prying edge.

When I picked it up at the auction Saturday, it was pretty grimy and included in a flat of unremarkable tools. A quick smudge of the glove partially exposed that little logo, which I thought was a treble clef, and that perhaps it was a piano-tuning hammer.

I think the key to identification is that logo.

By Golly, toffee hammer may be it after all. I was unable to find an old logo for the FE outfit, or even much history about it. FE was in Illinois, though, about 200 miles away from my auction, so I think that makes it a bit more likely.

It's a fairly substantial little hammer, weighing a bit over 1/2 pound. Well-made and has good hand feel too. The plating is thick enough to catch a fingernail where it is chipped. Does this indicate nickel plating vs chrome?

There used to be toffee here in the UK called Bluebird, I don't know if they still make it, I haven't seen it in ages but that came with a similar little hammer.
I still have it, it's very useful for small tacks on picture frames.

DW's brother sends a box of Entenmann's English Toffee every Christmas. It was evidently something special in their youth.

Since we are of an age where we are trying to avoid false teeth, it goes untouched.

Haven't the heart to tell him, and would feel guilty giving it to someone else to risk their teeth on.

May try the hammer on it....

I have one just like that someplace. My mother had a wooden nut dish with a metal center that was cast to look like a stump with a slightly concave top. She always used the hammer to crack the nuts on the stump.

That just reminded me that we had a tiny chrome claw hammer for that!
I think there was a stump in the middle of the heavy chrome bowl!

If you turn that letter the other way up it's just a kind of scrolly "P" thusly, plus a
sampling of different ones, although none JUST like it......
