It could be that she's Athena. It could also just be horrible carving; it's in a worn gold-filled setting. Maybe some of both.

I once went to a community tag sale and didn't buy anything. As I was driving away, some guy chased me down in his giant bright red SUV, yelling that I'd stolen his dog's water dish. I did not put the car in park, but did yell back that I had cats, not dogs, and had bought nothing. (that I'd stolen nothing went without saying, but the guy was off his meds or needed some.) I told him if he wanted to search my car to call a cop....and drove off. Scared the crap out of me. Odds are the dish was kicked under a bush somewhere by a passer-by or by the dog itself.

Her Imperial Furry Majesty drinks from a handled soup, btw; she wouldn't be so declassè as to use a plastic or stainless steel bowl.

A poorly carved Psyche. Bad Athenas are more like this:

Thanks. I sold one cameo as Monkey Face Lady Cameo, some time ago. It was so bad it was good.

I stopped using plastic dishes for both my boy cats. Number one developed chin acne, so I swapped to stainless steel. No more chin acne.

I haven't photographed the finds yet. If cameos are cheap enough, I buy them no matter what, it seems other people don't mind what they look like. I do tend to purchase them, though, for the beauty of the face and the intricacy of the carving. Evelyb, I think you will make a nice profit on your ring. Cameo rings are popular, and here, just about all cameos are popular. I was talking to a dealer friend at the show and he said he just sold a 14k cameo brooch and 14k cameo stick pin. Stick pins are a hard sell, usually, here. Which will lead to one of my photograph posts and another story.

Bronwen, I like the first cameo.....who is the figure holding the ball? The face is ot them most gorgeous, but overall, I love the carving and scene. It all comes into play.

@Poisonivy, took a bit to dig it out, but took more time to edit and MOSTLY resize the images.....MUST reset my phone settings.....images are usually 5MB!!!!! Ah well, here it is, and it looks like it's hooked (??)....ooops...size first....it's 4 feet, 11 inches, MINUS the chain and tassels, and looks like a silk backing, BWDIK!!! And while you're at it, if anyone can tell me anything about it, I'd love to know!!! Something I'd be interested in selling, probably here!!!! Thank you, one and ALL!!!!!

Edit: Am not sure if my Dad did that Mini curtain rod to hang it by or if that's the way Mom bought it........
