Hi my name is ??? Dog. It's carved black plastic and will soon be coming to an auction site near you, once we figure out the breed. It looks familiar, but I'm a cat person. The plastic appears to be bakelite. It's black and carved, and the black doesn't test with chemicals. DSCF7993sm.jpg DSCF7994sm.jpg

Airedale? Think Nick & Nora Charles & Asta? Edit: Just remember Asta was a wire hair terrier, another possibility. Scotties had their day as a jewellery motif too.

Same general outline, but show schnauzers have their ears cropped & trained to stand up. Think it may be one of the few terriers that can be ruled out.

Only in the US, they do the same with Boxers and Dobermans too.
My neighbour has a Schnauzer and it looks identical, bloody yapping thing.

One of the biggest beasts I've ever met up close & personal was a giant schnauzer. They do not yap. At that size, not sure they feel the need to bark at all; seems to be the littlest dogs who tell the world how tough they are.

Suppose it's possible it's a Bakelite Terrier & not a kennel club recognized breed.

Hmmm, leaving the terrier class for a minute, wonder if it could be a Bouvier, we had one and didn't crop the ears, or tail either.

I've never understood cropping the ears and tail; it seems cruel. Dogs are supposed to have tails, not docked dongles. It looks like it might be an Airedale, and if not it's close enough for FeeBay.

    Airdale

    Mini Schnauzer

Wheaton Terrier - a possibility, although the Airdale was more popular during the 30s-40s. Not sure the Wheaton is one many people would recognize by name.

I think an owner of either Airdale or Schnauzer would be happy with it.
I'd put both in the title.

Going with Airedale too, he is charming!

My male pointer (one of my twins!) was born with an angled tail, I didn't want to do anything because it doesn't bother me nor him:cat::happy:
Every pointer here in France have cropped tail, I asked a hunter why... he said hunting dogs are cropped to avoid wounds while hunting in thorns... but, setters always have full tail!
The answer was "yes, but pointers wagg their tails frantically and get really bad wounds from the thorns!"

That was the same with Standard French Poodles and they tied ribbon around the stump so they could see where they were in the bushes.

That's just it, I was trying to think in terms of breeds that would have been popular when the pin was made. And if you've ever seen the movie Best In Show, you know that, God loves a terrier...:singing:

This looks very much like the Russian Black Terrier, a breed created in the 1940s in USSR.

"Best in Show". My all-time favorite comedy, have watched it probably 5 times and never fails to make me laugh. A friend that raises show dogs tells me it's close to accurate.
