Featured Any day finding silver is a good day!

Hi again everyone, the man with the silver nose went on the loose again today. I visited 4 stores today (I found some good non-antique stuff too) and on my 2nd store I browsed the glass section. Sometimes the stores will put glass with metal bases/lids in this section, and I saw a nice little bowl (creamer bowl?). When I picked it up, I was happy when I saw it was 70 cents, and I was even happier when it said HAWKES STERLING. Not a huge piece, but something new to me. Personally I love the pieces with teeeny tiny marks on them, it makes it harder for all those other silver nosed people to find!

 

Now THAT is very cool! Just creamer, not "bowl."

Hawkes made the glass, I suspect. The silver part maker is anyone's guess.

 

Hawkes cut and engraved glass blanks from other manufacturers, but they did open their own silver workshop around 1912-13, most of their production was silver mountings for the glassware, but they also made a few all silver pieces...

Lovely find!
I recently found a wonderful big etched glass vase among all the FTD vases at a local thrift. It had a sterling rim and the HAWKES mark. $2.95!
