hello thumpersmom....re doll... first thoughts were KLING factory in Thuringia in Germany and further research showed they made a model 188 and 189 they were making dolls from 1870 onwards and your doll has the styling of dolls made from late 1900's onwards so 1905 would be a good estimate of the date of your doll
it is referred to as a bisque shoulder headed doll with a cloth and kid body...probably stuffed with wood fibres..known to break down to powder and bugs love it.. I usually use old Victorian era kid gloves to restore limbs but i suggest you leave it as .
dolls were not toys for kids as we know it today but, formerly were to represent fashion styles for the day for adults and it was only into the 20th century that they were classed as toy things ......hope this helps..A good reference to dolls is the series known as the Blue Books and represent a good guide to values....regards Hugh .....pewter2 ......I have around 90 dolls in my collection.. Wow. Great info Hugh. I searched so many hours online and don’t know anything about antique dolls. I too kept getting Kling made dolls come up in my search and think they looked the most similar to mine. But couldn’t find anything with reference to #’s like hers. I don’t have any books or anything. I have a small 9” doll that was with her. I haven’t looked her up yet. I just wanted to know anything I could find to pass on to my daughter one day. Thank you so much.

Thumpersmom......it really is difficult to assess your doll head from the picture you posted. A sitting position front on, back, sides, etc. could help....maybe.

However, may I make a suggestion. If, in your area, doll shows are held, it would serve you well to take your doll to get the opinions of many doll collectors/dealers all in one spot.

Most bisque head dolls such as era of the one you picture, had kid bodies, sometimes with bisque arms, legs.

There are exceptions to everything though.

In order for you to know the truth the doll needs to be seen hands on.

What is the other doll you wonder about?

    Care to share?
