I think this lamp has been in our family a while and belonged to my grandparents. Any idea if it's antique and what it's worth? I don't want to sell it if it should stay in the family. IMG_20180129_224045.jpg

Enough to know that the hardware is newer , but the lamp may yet be older...I'll wait for other members with their questions and thoughts...:)

Very 60s. Little value, though some Hollywood Regency decorators might find it appealing.

Are you sure? Maybe I need to post a better picture. I was born in '61, and she had it as long as I can remember. I think she told me once to be careful of it because her mother gave it to her. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and her father was a senator. I don't think my grandmother bought it new. She had all kinds of antiques from her family, like China cabinets and a claw foot table that I remember hearing was brought over by our ancestors from England. We are actually related to Benedict Arnold.
History is written by the victors, but my grandmother told me the real reason he turned traitor. He had a brother in England who he wrote for four years, trying to convince him to come fight for the Americans. When he finally gave in and came over, the Americans didn't believe he was General Arnold's brother and hung him as a spy as soon as he put into port. But to add insult to injury, they put out the story Benedict was a hen-pecked husband who did it because his wife wanted property promised by the King.

Hmm, I thought I remembered my grandmother telling me to be careful because it was a wedding gift from her mother. I know it was refurbished with newer fixtures, but the base is original.

True, it's hard to ever know the truth about ANYTHING, anymore. Propaganda has been around a long time!

I remember seeing letters signed by Arnolds. I wish I had read them all. I was too young to understand what they were talking about.

I could be getting some of my memories mixed, because I know my Mom had a silver tray that she said was a wedding present. People tend to give the most sentimental, family heirlooms at weddings, though.
