I picked this up at an estate sale this morning.
Small and very heavy. 8" long and weight is 6.5 lbs. so i know it is stone. the signature looks to me like A Lucchesi?
    Any help or comments appreciated.

Looks like it might be concrete.

see all the little bubbles....that's not stone.
stone doesn't have bubbles in it.
and the way it's signed , looks like some kind of pottery.

Actually there are quite a lot of different types of stones that have holes in them. here is a pic of the bottom.
Although it could be some kind of clay it sure looks like a rock to me.

    ya.....i didn't say holes ...i said bubbles...
and the signature was made when the material was soft...

but it's your g-d given right to believe pretty much whatever you want to believe, and dismiss any help or comments you receive ..............

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I agree that the sig does look like A. Lucchesi.

I agree on the signature, but I also agree with komokwa that it was written into a wet material.

Stones that are full of natural holes, like pumice, seem unnaturally light. Sometimes they even float on water.

Looks like cement or maybe some sort of cast stone to me but you've got it in hand to make the call. Sort of looks like it was painted at one time and some has worn off. I like it and keep imagining it with water shooting up from it in a pond setting. Actually, I wonder if maybe that's what that notch on the front is for.

I wasn't thinking about it but I do have some huge concrete urns in my garden that resemble this material. I think they started out with a grayish paint/stain but they're orange-ish now that they've weathered for years. 1.jpg 2.jpg

I can see it clearly now. Some kind of cement or clay. That is nice to know. but the sig couldn't be the famous A Lucchesi, or could it?

I should have said bubbles rather than holes.
