Could the circle indicate a Saint maybe? There are several women Saints whose name starts with L but I know nothing of how they are portrayed.

Think what is on back could be STER SIL for sterling silver? There is a mark on the front, the sort of thing you see on engraved medals. Couldn't really enhance it from pic provided:

There is certainly the suggestion of a religious medal here: the halo-like circle around the head; the overall shape, which resembles a personal devotional shrine. On the other hand, the figure looks a lot like the ponytailed girl seen on many modern artificial cameos. If a saint, can't spot any clues to identity.

Maybe a not so very nice rendition of Bernadette Soubirous (Lourdes)?

If it is her, they didn't do her justice. Poor girl, after such a hard life.

Thanks as always all. Yeah detail isn't to flash bit will give it a good polish photo above doesn't really do it justice a little nicer in hand. I gather age would be difficult to judge.

It was made some time post-WWII and probably post-1960. Around here Anne de Beaupre medals are common, but this isn't her. A Lourdes souvenir is as good a guess as any. Did they canonize any of the kids from Fatima?

The two youngest ones, Jacinta and Francisco, were beatified a few years ago. They died very young of the Spanish flu. Jacinta was never old enough to look like this.

Agree, or Italian. On cameos that have a signature involving a capital G, it is always made that way, like a larger g, not G or cursive form of G. Mark 'in the field' could be monogram. Other possibility is that one mark, probably the monogram, is the artist, the other name the maker of the casting. The style looks French to me, as I said before, like a little devotional shrine the devout might have in the home.

Edit: If 'monogram' is the right way up when figure turned sideways, I could see it as BG.

NOOO! Or I wouldn't anyway, unless you are keeping it for yourself & prefer it that way. Otherwise, if planning to sell, you don't want it to look brand new & will have a devil of a time taking more photos. Are what are coming across as little dots actually stars around the inner edge of the halo? That would suggest the Virgin to me; she is depicted with her head covered most of the time.

Yes they look like stars, 18 in number, if I counted correctly.
The star halo of the Virgin has 12 stars, a reference to the 'crown of 12 stars' of the Woman of the Apocalypse:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woman_of_the_Apocalypse

In the case of the woman on the medallion, I think the stars are a reference to her purity, something associated with a lot of saints.
The combination of women and stars in religion is usually a remnant of the ancient Ishtar or Astarte worship.
