I know little about pottery. Rarely buy anything because I always end up breaking things. Sometimes I take a chance if it's inexpensive and appeals to me. This was 3 dollars and it did.

Chulucanas Peru pottery. What's with the ring around the collar?
Was it repaired and that's the result of the glue?
The inside shows no sign of a break.

My guess would be a rope was wrapped around there for carrying or hanging.

I never thought about a rope wrapped around the neck. Good observation. I held it with my fingers somewhat wet and my fingers left damp spots that stayed for a long time in place on the surface. I suppose the clay is very vulnerable.
