    Hi all,

This is an old bangle bracelet belonged to my grandmother. I'm not sure exactly how old it is, but she had it since the 1940's.. it is 22k gold set with Natural Pink Sapphires.

Any info on the design? and based on it could this be an older piece?

Saw a few similar bangles online and the design was called "Victorian Etruscan Revival"??

    Thank you for your time..

    Gorgeous, Kavinda.
The decoration is very South Asian in style, so Western period terms like Victorian or Etruscan revival don't apply in this case. It is based on traditional Asian closed bangles, the bangle part itself has been adapted in a Western manner for comfortable use.

Thank you for the clarification Any jewelry as always :)
Yes, definitely Asian.. I guess i thought it was Etruscan revival because of the granulation and corded wire design.

As Any Jewelry, I think Asian, reminds me of Ceylanese jewelry, as these kondakoora hair pins:

Easy to think that, once you start googling. Granulation and twist wire filigree is traditionally found all over Europe and Asia, as far west as Portugal to as far east as the Philippines. The Europeans also introduced it in the Americas, so you've got your work cut out when you try to identify filigree. Here is a thread which shows how easy it is to confuse a Dutch pendant with Middle Eastern style:

That's one of the sloppiest pieces of work I've ever seen.
Or maybe the damage was more extensive , and the repair is messing with the overall look....

Welcome to the world of ethnic jewellery.:)
Not all ethnic jewellery is sloppy of course, some is very refined and exquisitely made. But you can often see that gold- and silversmiths didn't have modern tools, and the customers didn't mind. The value was in the materials and often in symbolism. An ethnic jewel is for identity, protection, portable value.

Thank you for that....I'll keep it in mind .

Still...my eye likes a fit and finish, with good geometry and clean lines.
Even without modern tools, the design is poor....poorly conceived ...the stones are of lackluster quality....and the damage was bound to happen with that rope of globs flying over the border.....

Agree, it has had a hard life, and was not well made to begin with. Still, gorgeous.

Hard to say exactly what it is,the bracelet itself is much better made than the added wire, balls and stone settings. It could have been a custom job of adding everything to a pre existing bracelet.
