Right, we're referring to the sort of modern plastics commonly used post-WWII for toys and trinkets and household goods and packaging. Plastics as much more broadly defined were invented in the first half of the 19th century, but what we usually consider now as "plastic" (which would exclude celluloid and bakelite) wasn't in widespread use until more than a hundred years later.
