    Hi everyone,

First time posting but hopefully someone will have an idea for me!

I sporadically collect china (Wedgwood Jasperware is the only 'serious' collection I have). The rest is just lovely things I pick up at antique stores/fairs etc. Nothing of any particular value I let my heart lead!

I recently picked up a very worn plate with damaged glaze and lots of wear, just thinking it was lovely. It's a J Kent, Fenton piece with the Osaka pattern.

HOWEVER, after some research I couldn't find another colour in the family like it, Osaka is usually blue and gold or a rich yellow with black. This piece is very pale cream, lustre ware with the black medallions. I'm wondering if it's a copy? I can't find its mark either after a bit of internet research though it's incredibly similar. I'm not at all familiar with the maker

Any help is kindly appreciated! Looking forward to using this resource. IMG_1822.PNG IMG_1819.jpg

Hello and welcome, Grant! I'm far from an expert on British porcelain but I suspect Kent produced this pattern in a number of variations. Those that didn't sell well would have had a short life span and as a consequence would be harder to find today. A copy seems unlikely due to cost - it's a rather complicated pattern. Marks on china are a bit tricky. Most marks changed over time and minor variations are not unusual.

I also love jasperware although I don't have much of a collection. Besides Wedgwood I also like Adams and I think Schafer & Vater made some lovely items.

    That's a lovely pattern!

I collect a bit of James Kent/Fenton myself, but only one pattern. I have numerous pieces, mostly in the blue colorway, but it was made in black, as well. Here's a shot of a dinner plate and a vase:

Have you perused "The Potteries" (Stoke-on-Trent, England) website?

    It's a very interesting read.

James Kent, original, not a copy.

Many colourways were not recorded, that applies for many potteries.

Variations of their backstamp include Longton and Fenton.

@dgbjwc Thank you, I suspected as much. The quality on the medallions is really lovely. My collection is only small pieces due to space constraints where I live, oddly enough Adams is really difficult to find in NZ.
