    Hello,

I have always been a lover of old houses, and recently became the owner of a house built in 1875!! The house was last updated in the 1970s and came with each window covered in these beautiful ornate curtains and drapes with sheers and curtains, all in great working condition. There are several different colors and sizes, including huge curtains that cover the entirety of a very large bay window.

My question is, are they worth more than me dropping them off at my local thrift store?

    Thanks

There are weights sewn into them. Is that a good thing or a not so good thing?

It's a normal thing, to make the drapes hang straight & retain their shape......but every now and again someone uses something more precious than lead for the weight...!

I would so keep them ! You couldnt afford such quality these days. Take them down, dry clean, then rehang them. That carpet,on the other hand, rip away !

Vintage rather than antique. And very possibly from SEARS which used to have custom drapery departments in its stores.

I think they're lovely and I would keep them.
I agree the carpet should go though.

Of course Shaina will do what she wants .. but it is fun to imagine what would look good with those wonderful drapes :). I myself would scrap the carpet and go with hardwood flooring .. they are indeed lovely drapes Shaina .... Joy.

I've only owned the house for a week or so. The Carpet is for sure going. Still considering the drapes. I do love them. But I don't know if I'm in love with them.

Ya have to go with your gut feeling, they are certainly not everyones cup of tea .. draw some rough sketches Shaina, try to find what style pleases you the most .. hopefully you have plenty of time to get it right in your minds eye .. Joy.

I'd live with the drapes for awhile and see how they fit in with my furniture and lifestyle. Someone put a lot of care into choosing them. Give them at least a couple of months. I could see them without the carpet, though. I mean, it's oatmeal color so not exactly a fashion statement.

    Hi,
I paid a lot for Jabot and swag curtains for my Brooklyn brownstone back in the 1980s. I would ditch the colored sheers under them and go with just pure white ones. JMHO.

I think perhaps, that the fullness and the very busy pattern of the inside curtains, are, in combination, presenting as somewhat more old-fashioned than today's tastes. Can the inner curtains be removed and used elsewhere? (Like behind your bed?)

Of course if your furniture compliments the window treatment, no worries. MCM stuff...not so much! Or early American. Or, ye cabin in the woods...
