    Hi All,
I have this brooch and trying to find out information on it. I think it has some age to it, the pin on the back is quite long and the overall appearance seems old to me but...
It is 1 1/4", missing the clasp/hook on the back. The letter is made up of blobs of gold and silver, on a blue enamel. Any ideas on where the was made?
    Any information appreciated.
    thanks for looking

I'm only guessing, wait for the joolies to give better info.

I would be looking at France, mid to late 1800s.
The bezel around the enamel may be low carat gold, but more probably the pin is rolled gold.
    Again, I am only guessing.

thanks cluttered! Yes, from the design I can see maybe France, I'll have a look down that road! It could be rolled gold on the bezel:)

Doesnt make sense to me. The center looks quality and you say its in gold and silver on enamel. But the outside doesnt look like precious metal or high end. Maybe the centerpiece came from a other piece of jewelry and fixed into this brooch.

Another guess, which sort of ties into the French idea. First thought was something Fraternal, perhaps something to do with Mardi Gras/New Orleans and its Krewes (group or organization of revelers). Each Krewe is uniquely named & represented (we here may be the Krewe of Antiquities, lol for example, & I'm sure we'd each have a lovely "A" brooch to wear).
Really just a thought - I may be totally off base, but hope it helps. I like the pin even if it turns out to be the original K-Mart Employee badge ;)

    thanks benbenny and rufus!
Sorry, I should have said 'gold and silver colour blobs' - I don't know what they are made of. I guess it could be a marriage, the centrepiece fits so I don't think so but I have been wrong before:)
Maybe Fraternal, I thought it was the initial of the owner

I'm a "joolie" of sorts, and I have no idea. Would think pre-20th century, I really haven't seen anything like this before. Doesn't look like a marriage to my eye. Hopefully someone will come by who has seen similar.

    Interesting piece!

I think the decorative elements might be called paillons, but I'm not sure that's a correct use of the word. My first impression of the initial was Cyrillic. It seems to be a custom ordered kind of thing, but where it went is not necessarily an indication of where it came from.

    Thanks for your replies folks:)

Thank-you for that site cluttered, there is some amazing pieces shown there! After looking around I believe this is from France and agree with you on the age!
Thank-you for the term 'paillons' MOS - I've never heard the term before, but using it I'm finding similar pieces. Here is a piece from pinterest - there is no current information with the photo but shows the technique better than my photos.
I'll try a sunshine cloth on mine to clean it up a bit.

I have a tiny watch here with similar enamel. The watch is Swiss, but the enamel could be French. It has a silver case and a nonfunctional movement. Cobalt blue however has always been popular.
