Picked up a couple small silver pieces today. This little box is hallmarked 925 and what I assume are probably a marker's mark and perhaps a date mark(tiny tiny marks) - but I've been perusing 925-1000.com and can't figure out where this came from. It's just over an inch across.

The site where I found this says it is the zodiac sign Leo, used by London assay office from 1907 on imported watches. Maybe on imported silver generally?

Thank you! Here it is listed as a London import/assay mark - not just specifically for watches...

And I think I just found that particular V as the London date mark for 1995 - so this is not very old :)

The MG Ld sponsor does not appear to be identified by anything more than MG Ltd. But yes, 1995, imported (but not further defined) and sterling.

    Was typing right behind you.

My best shot. Sponsor's mark for MG Ld (assuming Limited.); fineness mark for imported silver; London assay office mark for imported silver; date letter U in the style of 1935, since assay office mark indicates 1907 or later & V is not used. I was on another page of the same site. Table of date letters did not go past 1935, so could well be a better match out there.

I have a similar silver box from Argentina. However, it is without 925 hallmark. But I was told it was silver as I received it from Ambassador of Argentina to Ukraine and his wife for helping them to make up their collection. It is over an inch across. She told me it's a popular national souvenir. She used such box for pills to have them in purse. I got this piece 20 years ago, in 1997.

Importer could be Martin Gerald. Dates are right.
