I found this a while ago & just came across it again. I want it to be a Chinese antique carved bone (it has some grain that is straight lines like bone should have) pot/vase/incense holder, but the pessimist side says it's a resin copy.
One interesting thing - I heated a small metal pair of tweezers till it was hot to hold & then pressed it into one of the feet.
Nothing happened! It didn't melt at all & it didn't smell like burnt plastic.
Can someone tell me what I have & anything else I can do to see if it is bone?

Resin, from a mold. Bubbles, blobs, seams are tell-tale signs.

I have a very similar one, except lidded, handled & different mark on the bottom. Definitely molded resin, as AJ said. Just noticed that there is a mark on the underside of the lid, different from the one on the main body, no doubt for added authenticity. It's impressive in its own way, as a fake.

Isn't that really the fun? Although I enjoy it a whole lot more when I do score a 'find'.

BTW, just as a general note, I'm not sure anything living in our time has bones large & dense enough to make something like this.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Other than "carved Chinese pot", did we ever get a size of it?????

Not yet. Because they are so alike, I'm assuming close in size to one I have, which is 5 or 6 inches tall from bottom of feet to top of rim on the bottom part. Mine has a lid with a foo dog on top, so whole thing stands fairly tall. About 4 inches edge to edge across the mouth. It is also pretty heavy. Intention more likely to be imitating ivory than bone. Mine does not show anything resembling grain.

It's actually an incense burner, which normally metal.

I would also vote for resin, by the looks of it.
