SO, BACK to the Mark or Hallmark......best I could enlarge the couple of images....interesting marks...one looks like an ancient chopping blade??? The other a bird, duck or serpent?? There are better eyes than mine out there!!!!

This daughter has been known to wear her share of "mens" rings, so don't let gender get in the way.

It does, and it is balancing on top of an axe, a bit of a circus act.:hilarious: But I agree, a very nice ring.
That upside down shield shape is not uncommon, I'm sure @Bronwen can tell us all about that.

Know AJ & others have already seen my more through reply in the Cameo Show & Tell thread. The summary is that while in a way the ring is a generic man's ring with tiger's eye cameo of a helmeted male in the style of a Trojan War hero, the execution of the cameo is of high quality, the design of the ring very unusual, diamonds never hurt value, and, while shield shaped engraved gems are not uncommonly used in men's rings, they are usually employed the other way up & engraved with something like a family crest.

I am extremely pleased that the ring will stay with the family & is not hidden away. Yes! Please do not hesitate to pass it on through a daughter, whether she would wear it (a pinkie ring on a man fits lots of women's ring fingers) herself or preserve it for a male in the next generation.

Some of my best pieces came to me because of the opposite situation: a cameo set in women's jewellery inherited by a man who had no female to give or bequeath it to.

How are we doing on the anseriform bird?
