I have a pint mug that was silver plate. Most of the plating had worn off, and the remainder was buffed off by someone who was going to have it re-plated and didn't. It's mine now, and I'd like to have it plated. The marks indicate Victorian era, but I can't make out enough detail to determine a maker. Does anyone have recommendations for a company or individual that can re-plate this for me? Thanks, and Happy New Year, Frank
You can purchase silver plating solution online, it just rubs on, don`t know how good it is. You can also do electro silver plating from home, lots of DIY Videos on YouTube.
Hi Around here they charge between 50 and 100 dollars for replating. It used to be cheaper in the 2010s. Last thing I had replated was an 1885 card receiver about 4" by 5" and a little stem and wide base. It was 40 dollars but it had a thicker plating. This was in 2012. greg
Well, after several years, I finally got around to having this mug re-plated, and it's lovely! My thanks to Metro Plating and Polishing of Kensington, MD. Now, I'd like to use this from time to time, so what beverage might be the least harmful to the plating? As it's a pint mug, I assume it might've been for beer?
It will NOT go in a dishwasher (we don't have one, anyway), so I expect a soft handwash with Dawn liquid, and a gentle going over with Wrights as needed. I don't want to wear through the plating.
