Featured Maker's mark on a honking great huge pendant

Bought this on FB, 'cos it's sort of Ruskin in style. It isn't that, of course. But does anyone recognise that stylised V?

 

Yes, it is, sort of. Really pretty. I think the initial is the owner's, either personalized when it was made, or for any V who bought it or was given it.

 

That's a thought. Interestingly, the nice woman I bought it from had a Russian or maybe Bulgarian name. (It took a WEEK to get to me from five miles away!)

 

Could it be an L?

 

I think the orientation is more V, than L if that makes sense?

 

That blue is stunning. Really pretty

It looks like Turkish work, but probably isn't. Somebody did a nice job, wherever it came from.

Not gaudy enough for her, though. Penny Marshall would have worn it; Laverne would have wanted more stones.

 

Ruth, yes, really well made. I think pewter and someone did a good job planishing.

 

How were the indentations made? Are they meant to be decorative?

Using the word "planishing" I found a few web pages that describe various hammers used in jewelry making. This one has the fewest advertisements:

So if planishing is a process of smoothing sheet metal, it sounds as if something different would be used for making the indentations...

 

They were made by a domed punch.
