I found this old peg leg at a estate sale today. The owner told me it was civil war era & he thought it had been a slave's.
Is there a way t tell it's age & whether it was a soldier or a slave?
    I appreciate any help.

Nails/attachments do not look old enough for civil war era to me. Impossible to tell who it belonged to without documentation.

The varnished? finish bothers me. I certainly can't imagine a slave having that luxury. I Googled Civil War era peg leg and they are pretty plentiful thanks to the multitude of amputations from the war. The patina on the wood is much different then this and I did not see any with a similar shiny finish. I don't think this is that old either but I really have no idea. Here is the image search I was looking at. https://www.google.com/search?q=civ...RCYKHeZcC3sQ_AUICigB&biw=1680&bih=917#imgrc=_
