It's a standard china doll head and the base has a stiff core. It was part of a large lot of dolls that were used mostly as Christmas tree decorations. Some even had a hole drilled in their head for a small wire ring to hang them from.

Most dolls done like this usually had a useful purpose but I'm not sure what use this one had.

    Thanks! IMG_0115.JPG IMG_0113.JPG

Lovely, but she doesn't seem to approve of her get up, does she.
Just wondering, is that a (mother of pearl?) button at the back?

    I'll tag @judy and @Christmasjoy for you.

My guess would be a pincushion also.

"Clothing" is home made and quite charming.

Wait for @Christmasjoy & @sassafras to offer their opinions.

Not a pearl. Just a clump of stuffing from the hat.

Another vote for pincushion, although I have seen broken heads made in to ornaments.

She is adorable, what a charming get-up. The embroidery is so typical of crazy quilts of that period. Looks like the cat got ahold of the hat, though?
