What would I call this? Also can anyone help with where this was made? Japan? China?

Measures 9" long, solid wood, top is sort of rounded. Thinking the carved section might be bamboo. All thoughts appreciated.

I'd say a paper weight for scrolls. There is a name for them, can't think of it now.

I'm sure mine is newer, agreed. Helpful to know this is Chinese.

I noticed in the link above that they are referring to their item as a "scroll weight/wrist rest". I just Ebay searched "Chinese wrist rest" and did get a match for the type of wood mine is likely to be (if the person with this auction is correct.) Not comparing prices here, just the wood seems to be exactly what I have. They are saying "Bamboo carved, rosewood." Is that correct, or should I just call mine bamboo?

I guess one thing is that the item I have is solid wood. Maybe indicates more or a "weight"? Haven't found an online match yet -- but getting close. Thanks!

Agree, it could be rosewood, which is a general term used for different kinds of wood. The inlay is bamboo.
To me the round topped one in the ebay listing is a wrist rest, yours and the flat one in the etsy listing is a scroll weight to me.
I use a round topped antique Indonesian wrist rest when on my computer, but I've wrapped it in soft material for comfort.:)

1st word: the upper right side , I can not read.
2nd word: lower right side, "Pin" - 品
3rd word: upper left side, I cannot read either
4th word: lower right side "Xuan" - 轩 (means Hall)

Sorry, Chinese has very complex language, besides traditional and simplified, there's over 10 different handwritings and most of them I cannot read nor guess, also some of them cannot even be found on google dictionary.
