Need some help from some more knowledgeable people. I was at an auction this morning and I thought I was bidding on a large crock, turns out I was mistaken and I ended up with this instead. I was pretty disgusted with myself at first but after doing some research I think I might have done ok. Based on my limited research I have found it is made by Spode in England and is their tower pattern. It is stamped with a U over 95 on the bottom which I have found indicated it was made in June of 1895. Since they started that method of dating in 1870 and went through 1957 it seems to me it can only be 1895. So any more information on it would be awesome. History, corroborating my thoughts on the date, what type of piece is it (I'm just calling it a bowl with lid), and also ideas on value. It has one or two small chips on the edge but overall seems quite nice for the age.

The pictures aren't the best (my new phone with a nice camera is supposed to arrive later today) but hopefully they're good enough to get a good idea.

    Welcome to the forum Budman.
Many of us don't click on links. Your new phone probably has a program to reduce the MBs so you don't have to crop the pictures.

I would go along with your date analysis though I'm not an expert on copeland spode dates.

The item is a covered serving dish, probably for vegetables

Fine on the date, and yes, a vegetable tureen. There's one in lousy condition up on Ebay UK for £35.

Found the link. That one is much much worse. Mine has a few tiny chips but no cracks. Also i didnt see any mention of date on that one.

Here is the UK listed broken one and a few more I found. The problem is I don't know how to gauge price off of these since they don't say what the date code is.

The etsy one is the only one that mentions the date, saying it is 1950's. I don't really know but I would think one made in 1895 has to be worth more than one in similar condition made in 1950. I have no idea if that price is even close though.

We have a rather large set of Tower, including two of the piece you have. One is the old mark from before 1900, and the other has a newer mark. Got the old one for $25.00 and paid $35.00 for the newer one. Both in very fine shape with no chips or cracks, and only minor crazing on the underside of the old one. Probably doesn't help you much does it?
