I know I'm only a girl, but feel I'm crying in the wilderness.

It is late for this old lady and I shouldn't be trying to figure anything out at 4am! I did not mean to be redundant with my suggestion. Good night all!

Yes, so I wouldn't put much weight on the use of that term on this printing plate; it has been used pretty widely. I do think the "to be continued" is a strong indication that this was likely from a newspaper, or perhaps a comic book or magazine that ran a serial strip from month to month, (such as "Boy's Life", which Bronwen suggested).

I'm not an expert on printing processes, but here's my best guess: this type of printing plate, used in offset printing, would likely predate 1970-1980, when photo processes had pretty much replaced cast printing plates. And the general style dates it to earlier than that.

The way the Africans are portrayed, speech as well as appearance, would already not have been PC, I don't think, 30 - 40 years ago. It definitely has a pre-Civil Rights era feel to it.

This is probably my last idea on this. I strongly suspect that the story of Burnham's life was serialized in Boys' Life Magazine, hence the 'to be continued'.

OK, one more. This eBay seller has some old issues of Boys' Life for sale now & has a category in his store for Boy Scout books, etc. He might be someone to get in touch with or to follow: mcarver14116
