I’d call this a trunk not case.
Nice it has its shelf as these are often missing.
The locks are often broken or missing. Looks like it would function if you have the key if not you could probably find one.
Latches are often damaged or missing as well.
It was probably not an expensive trunk when new as the top is flat. Curves were more expensive and existed for a specific reason.
Good deal if you’re keeping it. They are quite handy in the garage or even cleaned up as a coffee table.
They aren’t worth a lot and value is subject to location.

The metal fittings are interesting. Don't look USA made.

Meant to say they are perfect for packing away fragile Christmas decorations amd similar. :)
If you put it in the garage you should probably put in something to absorb moisture.
My oldest stuff, my Grandma's German ornaments, is in my Navy wooden sea chest or it would be in one of these. :)

Assume metal with faux wood grain? Think you paid an average thrift store price. Probably worth double or slightly more at retail here in the Midwest. May be worth more (or less) in other locations.

    Looks like a metal wrap.

I had one many decades ago...used it as a coffee table in my first apartment. Small apartment..so it was great to have extra storage too !

I still have the 2 footlockers I took to college way back when. One has unneeded bedding, the other, stuffed to the brim with Christmas ornaments. I also have a rustic looking sea chest I was given that holds wrapping paper, etc.

We had some discussion around this general topic not too long ago for another trunk.
