It is you. EBay used to show a user's actual ID with their bid. They stopped this, maybe so bidders could not readily be in touch among themselves, & started assigning an alternative ID that appears only to other bidders, not to you. The rest of us see the currently winning bid as having been made by '8***u'. Think of it as your nom de bid.

 

I AM the $126.00 bidder!!!!!!!

 

FYI, the name ebay gave me starts with a small case "c" and a whole bunch of gobbledeygook after it..........

 

- When you bid on something you put in the most you want to spend.
- Ebay then remembers what your high amount is but only ups the auction to an amount just above the next highest bidder, so if no one else bids, you will win the cameo for $97.02.
- If someone else bids, and if they bid less than your high of $126, the auction will show an amount just above the new bidder. For example, you bid $126, a new bidder bids $115, the auction will show you are the high bidder at $116.

Does this make sense to you, am I explaining it right?

Agree - that's what bidding history indicates to me too. Think it may not have exactly been 'someone'. More like a service given a limit that was high enough to take it. When it's cleaned up it will be quite beautiful. Will not be surprised to see it for sale elsewhere, at double the price or more.
