Polish_20201204_155407449_copy_1440x1440.jpg I know it's silver, it passed the ice cube test and it chimes when its dinged, was tarnished but cleaned up for close up pictures.
I can't find it online, not sure if it's an antique but i believe it is as it was left by the previous home owners along with several other antique things.
I don't even know where I could take this to learn more about it so any help would be appreciated :)

    Thank you !!(:)
it is not! No markings at all. It looks like it comes apart at the base as well. My husband says he doesn't think they used bolts way back then but not certain.

The ice cube test also works when the item is silver plated. Don't count on this stick being sterling.

What part of the world are you in, Charlotte?

Take it to a local jeweler (call first to ask if they will test it, preferably for free. ;))

silver is a good heat conductor.....
put ice on it and ice will melt fast ...... long story short.

The base underneath also has some orange spots on it that make me think it isn't silver but they scrape off with a little effort. I scratched it fairly easy stupidly scraping wax off of it.

But the way it tarnished and the sound it makes when it hits the countertop is just like the silver coins. Im not sure if i can upload videos on here

I haven't actually compared side by side, just going off memory but I will do that right now actually! We have a pure silver coin I can test it with. Does the date it was made still matter? I believe its 99%

Up close i just noticed it looks like theres a coating chipping off on the base in one of the original pics i posted hmmmmm

A pure silver coin will sound very different than sterling.

Coating chipping off the base is not a good sign. Would guess this is plated.

The only way to be sure it is silver is to have it tested, ice cube positive or not!

not unusual that the covers in weighted objects are simply some tole. but that doesn't say anything for silver or not.
I'd unscrew the nut and softly try to pry it open. the putty normally used on old stuff for giving weight loses its humidity and there may already be dust.

We were thinkin about that just bc we're curious i wonder if there would be any markings on the inside. Im just afraid ill damage something thats potentially worth something.
Silver or not I'd really like to know even what style this is in. Im guessing victorian based on similar candlesticks. If its not vintage, its definitely meant to look it.
I've held onto it for years hoping to figure out where it came from. Candlesticks like these are super rare (if its actually an antique) bc after the lightbulb was invented they lost popularity and were melted down for the war and I imagine due to the great depression as well.
