The Marshall House The home of General George C. Marshall

    Hi all,

    Happy Holidays!

Today's question regards this orange bakelite radio, made by Fada. This sits in the kitchen of the Marshall House and is not believed to have been owned by the General. Can anyone guess about when this was made?

Also, you'll notice that the two knobs are different. Was one of them replaced? There's been a rumor among the docents that if the knobs were both the same, it would be worth about $1,000. Any insight into this? Thanks all!

Is it possible the right hand knob is actually a cap and the left should have the same?
If so, perhaps it was simply lost or pilfered. :(
Also, if that is cap, you may be able to find one.
Radio collecting folks’ save every such thing.

As collectable as it is I would say there would be a chance of finding the knob but it wouldn't be cheap. I absolutely LOVE it BTW!!!!:)

Nice radio. Known as the Fada Bullet radio. The all one color version such as this is the least valuable of these but still worth several hundred. The knob on the right is the correct one. Knobs are available, both as originals and reproductions.

This person has some Fada knobs. He seems to indicate he may have some colors not showing. I believe there is also a piece of felt intended to go under the knob which seems fairly easy to find. I would call here and ask for references if he doesn't have it possibly. Good luck!!! http://www.oldradioparts.com/knobs.htm

There is a set of knobs that look like they match yours but not cheap!

The left knob is not correct. Yellow is the most common color and therefore worth the least. About $300 as is. Not worth paying $200 for a pair of correct knobs.

No, if you read the link, and see the images, both knobs should look like the knob on the right!!

i don't see any holes for screws so i think it was a snap in bottom, .... nope on further insight i see 2 holes for bolts to screw into, and hold the whole thing together .

also if it doesn't have a bottom make sure to elevate it to let the heat escape as tubes will get very hot and cause it to burst into flames .
