Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

I've still got horse blood in my veins although am not about to climb back on anytime soon!!!! My first was a Welsh Pony at about 13 who liked to throw me if she could (I ate a little dirt!) then a Quarter Horse who saw me nearly through college when we gave him to a family with kids.....I think he was 32 or 33 when they buried him on their property many years later (they loved him as much I did, and they had other horses, but their kids grew up with my horse!!)

As for the wood horse above, shoot me if you must, but I would really like to see it without that flea bitten, worn out ragged and shrunken hide on it!!! I'm betting there might be some nice carving under there......but it all depends on if you're going to keep it or sell it too, and which you think would bring you the better money, if selling!! With the hide shrunken and the stitching stretched, it looks kind of grotesque. But the base is neat. Sadly any harnessing that was with it is mostly gone........all JMHO!!!!!

    Think The Velveteen Rabbit

and the Skin Horse. Always wondered what the skin horse was. Think now I know.

Here's my daughter's horse - first, front right, as a baby with her stable mates (all related...) and now, at age 30, retired, but still going strong:

She & DD competed on the show circuit for many years - she was almost always the only Palomino t-bred there.

I have to find the photo of my mom as a little girl in her cowgirl outfit on her Trigger holding her hat in the air - on a miniature version of the real one!
She told us how her Trigger used to be able to add & subtract by pawing the ground the correct # of times.
She also talked of riding trigger up & down the midway - what a life for a little girl!
PS - When the carnival comes to your town & you see an old timer manning a ride, just tell him "I'm with it"- and he'll let you on for free!

I thought the same thing. I think it might get weird where the glass eyes are set in though but a creative person could likely come up with an attractive display piece. I would leave that to a buyer though but might mention the possibility in the description to get someone thinking IMHO.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Trigger and Buttermilk, and Bullet the dog, are currently owned by RFD-TV and they have not yet opened any public museum for them. I read here that they are displayed in the lobby of that cable station but it's not open to the public.

And in 2016 RFD-TV loaned Trigger and Bullet to the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame for display in an exhibit for 6 months:

Hello! I searched on Worthpoint for a good while and came across your exact horse. When I search on these old horse pull toys I focus on the base. The base to your horse has a unique shape. There is always the possibility that a horse could be remounted but yours appeared original so I was looking for another original toy. It helps to know that the toy is hide-covered as that narrows down results. Then the material of the eyes can come into consideration - yours look to be glass - am I right? With your horse toy being hide covered and having glass eyes I would agree that the toy is Victorian (maybe c1880-1890?) I sold a cow pull toy that was hide covered and glass-eyed and the cow was from 1890. The match I found on Worthpoint sold on December 9, 2017 for $155. It is the exact same dimensions and of similar condition. I would upload the photo from Worthpoint but I'm not sure about copyright. It is your horse.

:oops::bag::bag: Guess I should have looked at the Worthpoint listing. I just didn't want you to miss any potential help with your piece. :sorry::sorry::sorry:

You did get a fairly good return on your investment though, so congratulations on that.:happy::happy:

I am trying to find out anything about this horse and it's style. It is about 25 inches wide and 17 1/2 inches high. The square area in the middle is 4 inches wide by 3 1/2 deep. The entire work is 4 inches thick. Those are some sort of wooden balls with real horsehair coming out through the bottoms of them. The carving is unknown to me.The wood is painted with the thickest lacquer paint that I have ever seen cover any item... about as thick as cardboard... but very hard. I don't know if I should touch it up cause this thing looks historic in person.[IMG] http://mosogroves.com/horse2.jpg
