    Hi All,
I've had this tin for several years, just re-discovered it. The pins are Chinese Freemason pins, a bunch of little gold ball things wrapped in paper - what do you think they are?
Also a little fish, no marks to indicate silver - ideas on where it would have been made?
I asked the Grand Lodge of BC and Yukon about the pins, here is the reply
    Greetings:
The image is not of a high enough resolution for me to clearly distinguish the characters but this pin may have been struck by the Bing Kong Tong in San Francisco, one of several groups which, by 1920, were referring to themselves as the Chinese Freemasons. This club has no relationship with regular Freemasonry but adopted the square and compasses emblem in the late nineteenth century, and the name "Chinese Freemasons" in the early twentieth, at a time when there was little contact between the asian and mainstream North American communities.

    Any information appreciated.
    thanks for looking

    Very interesting cx.
The articulated fish pendant could be Chinese as well. Maybe this will help:

The little gold balls are those dangles you see on Indian and Middle Eastern jewellery. A bit like these, the ones on the necklace are split, like bells, the ones on the earrings are closed:

I think your tiny gold things are buttons... My grand mother had chinese tunics in very thin silk with such buttons, on the diagonal opening from base of neck to underarm:)

They are really tiny, the equivalent of 6 mm I think.

I still have some antique Peking glass ones, but they are slightly bigger. They were called Mandarin buttons, but I doubt any Mandarin ever wore them.
On my Chinese cheongsam tunics I had those intertwined silk buttons, same concept though.

I'm working on Christmas decorating but keep finding other stuff - it is slowing the decorating down.
Thank-you kyratango and AJ:) So they could be used as buttons or for jewelry.
Off to read the link for the little fish.

Thank-you Terry, I never thought they could be gold, I'll take them to pawn shop and get him to test them.

You could be right, I can't see any base metal coming through around the edges of the dents.
cx, will you let us know the result?
