I acquired this box but I'm not sure how old it is or even what it is. I bought it because I was just awed by the craftsmanship. Was wondering if anyone could shed any light on its approximate age or what it might be. It's small, I would estimate around 5 by 7. Would appreciate any input, guesses or insight. Thank you.
I just realized I posted this in the wrong spot and don't know how to move it to the correct one. I promise I make a much better 4th impression.
you can't move it...only mods can..... but u can edit it leaving only the word Edit.....or Whoopsy......and still use this Into to tell us about yourself...... then post this box in the correct Forum... or not !
Welcome to the Forum, @PorchGirl I have Moved your thread to Antique Discussion Forum. Photos enlarged. You can check the box for Post All images Full Size, next time you post.
Looks like a trinket box, (meaning you can put any small things you like in it). The decoration is split and dyed straw, which can be described as "straw marquetry". A popular decorating technique in eastern Europe and Russia.
I can't say for sure. Such things are still being made. But from the shape of the box itself I would guess 1950s-ish.
