    Hi all,

An old Star Sapphire ring in 22k gold... No makers marks but is it possible to guess which era it belonged to based on the design? All i know that it was before 1970s..

    Thanks in advance...

The style is mid century. A type of 'tank ring', named after the robust shape and the tank track design. Those big shapes are very much post-war.
    I love tank rings.

Since I hang around here so much, I might as well make myself useful.;)
Yes, the period is called Retro now, the model tank ring. The Retro period produced some wonderful jewellery, often ostentatious, but who cares. I love it.
It is called Retro because it combined many earlier types of design. But often in a very novel way. The tank ring shape as such was already around, but was never more 'tank ring' than in that period.
Agree, it looks like the two rings were by the same maker.

They're big and chunky and have nice big rocks. I like tank rings too, in case you can't tell.

the actual sapphire brings to mind the sapphires found in North Carolina. The color looks like the type found there. It does seem to be a natural sapphire rather then man made. It is hard to tell from the pictures how straight the rays of the star are, or the translucence of the stone. But it looks like a "decent" sapphire. There are those that collect N.C. Sapphires.

Thank you for the info @Bdigger ... but these are Natural Ceylon sapphires, yes the Star sapphire has a diffused star.. It is purplish red but still considered as a 'Star Ruby' here in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka is a major gemstone country, particularly known for sapphires.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I was not familiar with the term "tank ring" -- thanks for the information!
