It is not jade. Soapstone or of the sort. Do you think it is old or recent?
    Thanks

    looks recent to me.
    those are lackluster dragons.
i used to hang with a guy who had several bi-discs....this doesn't remind me of any of his.

whatever it is...it looks to have been aged by staining with tea... imo..

I think foo dog not dragon
Have no idea what it is or what the composition might be

Why would a Foo dog be on a Bi disc.
Dragons are found on Bi Discs...I've never seen a foo dog depicted on one.

    Hi,
It is the "spine" carving that throws me for a loop.

It's trying hard to look like an authentic Bi Disc.....but it's not quite there....

Because like me, who ever made this did not know all the symbolism. Or maybe, because this is meant as a reproduction, they used what they knew would not have been on the real bi disc.

Or maybe I just can't recognize a dragon when I see one.

The item is a modern reproduction, and the two figures depicted are neither a dragon or foo-dog......they're Bixie (please note the horned heads).

A Bixie (Chinese: 辟邪; pinyin: bìxié, Wade-Giles: Pi-hsieh; Japanese: 辟邪, へきじゃ, Hekija), is a type of lion-like mythological Chinese creature, or chimera. It is considered as an exorcising animal (辟邪 literally means "Avoid Evil") and is usually hornless.

Well they could be ....but then it's even less of a Bi Disc !!

Usually found hornless, but not totally. Please Goggle... Pixiu.
