I have lots of those old buildings with the attendant trees. Love them.

 

Wow, great stuff quirkygirl Your little dwarf snowbaby (with the snowball) is shown in Snow Babies, Santas and Elves by Mary Morrison on pg 109.
What size is the house? Does it look like the roof came off? I'm think candy container to hang on the tree. Those little blue trees look the ones from Japan in the late 1950s, too bad they are glued in place.

Is the little red guy that I was calling an elf a snowbaby? Cool! Thanks for that info! He has a number impressed on his back that looks like 2769, but no other marks. The three 'dwarfs' are marked Japan.

The house itself is 3½"wide X 2¼"deep X 4½" to the top of the chimney (9cm X 5.6cm X 11.5cm) I don't see that the roof was removable ... there is still some pretty thick paint and mica up where the roof meets the top of two of the walls without any cracks or signs that there was an opening an any time. I think the color may have been a light minty green that has faded to white (looks mint on the back and under the eaves) I was trying to find one like mine - with that cotton batting roof - but had no luck. The roof is kinda dingy from years of dust (how could they have dusted cotton fluff!) ... so I'm pretending it's in Wales. There is what's left of the original tree stuck into the side of the house - a few 'needles' and rusty wire.

lol, yes, that one. It seems in the snow baby collecting world there are differences between an elf and a dwarf. Numbers impressed is good, sometimes they were also marked Germany, yours was made in Germany. The little girl on the sled I'm certain is also a snow baby but I got busy at work, will finish looking through the book tomorrow. I'm not familiar with the other 3.
I'd say your house is also from Germany, the tree on the side would be original and the Santa also looks original. What are his legs made of?

 

Thanks again! As far as Santa's skinny legs ... I had to take a loupe to them to see what they were ... and I'm still not sure. It looks like tightly twisted brown paper that has been painted very dark brown or black (he also has a stump of one arm made of this twisted stuff) He seems to be pinned to the house with a straight pin. Not that you asked, but the door of the house is trimmed in what looks like a thick pipe cleaner (made of wool?).

 

I rarely post Finds but thought I would try editing a large photo with tools in my phone to see how it works.

Got this lovely cream and sugar set with jonquils (or perhaps daffodils). They are marked Bavaria, with a blurred logo I can't read. Doesn't matter, because I love them.

I hope this works and it's visible.

Today's jewelry haul
These three pin/pendants are made by a local jewelry designer whose name is Courtney. Because her pieces don't look like 'serious' jewelry, they often fly under the thrift stores radar. The leaf and bird&flower were recognized as sterling, but even at $15 ea., they were still well below her retail price. The elephant was the true sleeper - on the $4 rack and it retails for much more than the other two I've put it on an ivory bead necklace that I found last week at the SA for 50¢


These two pins were also from the $4 rack ... the one is white metal and various Chalcedony stones (I'm unfamiliar with this style of inlay ... but I like it)- probably not brand new, but I doubt it's too old. The other is my first pietra dura piece that I've ever come across. It's in an unmarked yellow metal setting and I do think this one is pretty old, but I'm not certain about it.

 

These are all beautiful! And good that you recognized what all of them were. You found so many great pieces at once!

That squiggly stone pin may be better than you thought. I'm seeing what looks like a tube hinge, and agate inlay jewelry was popular in the Victorian era. The clasp is a replacement, but who cares.

Well, since you're twisting my arm ... just one more bunch of stuff before I sleep.

Some bargain items from yesterday. The celluloid tortoiseshell item is a push button mechanical fan - you push this metal plunger (hidden behind a fan blade in my pic. - too lazy to go take a better pic.) to make the fan spin. A different company also made these that opened to reveal a mirror, pressed powder, and a little powder puff ... unfortunately, mine is only a fan. The elf and mushrooms are painted Bakelite. The unused badger hair shaving brush has a Bakelite handle. Bought all three for under $2 ... for all.

Some bargain jewelry from SA ... most expensive piece was the Taxco sterling bracelet @2.99. I need to post the (not yet polished) bead necklace to the NA jewelry group on FB ... I still cannot differentiate handmade beads from bench beads.

Mid priced finds from Monday (between $7 and $9): coral necklace w/ GF clasp, Sandy Baker S/S earrings w/ 14k posts, funky (modernist? brutalist?) S/S ring. The 2 14K crosses were in a bag of jewelry that I picked up for $3

The silver beaded necklace is handmade,you can tell by the sloppy/excess solder flow on most of the beads. If you had already polished, it would be hard to see.
