CARVED ROUND ART? SHIELD? AFRICAN OR HAITIAN?

    I've had this piece for a while. I usually buy things I find in storage units, thrift stores, estate sales, etc.. with the idea of reselling them, but this piece was so unusual & nice that I've hung on to it.
    Can anyone tell me where it's from? I'm guessing Africa or Haiti?
    It's made from 3 pieces f wood that were put together & then carved (how they made it so strong when it's attached edge to edge is pretty cool, too)
    How would you describe it; round carved art? Carved shield shaped art?
    Any thoughts of info is greatly appreciated (as always!)

    To me it looks like it is either Inca or Aztec----Not African.
