I have too many deviled egg dishes! This has always been one of my favs because of the color an edging. Questions are..

#1 Since my black-light died is there any other way to tell if this is uranium glass. Not sure if Smith ever used it in their pieces. It does have that yellow/green glow in sunlight.

#2 I believe the pattern is either Pineapple or Heritage.

#3 The edges have me puzzled..what process made the milky blue. I can't seem to find any other pieces they made with this.

#4 Any way to date? The mark is a plain S.

#5 Approximate value. I know these sell for max $20 but none have that blue edging.

Thanks in advance for any info!

I think "Opalescent" is the term for the edging. Pretty piece! Welcome to the group!

I did a little searching and am finding LE Smith pieces in Uranium glass. Can't find your piece though.:(

The stone in this ring is pale yellow indoors, faintly green outdoors, & looks like this when an LED flashlight is aimed at it:

Also works on some sherbet glasses I bought at a flea market long before I had ever heard of uranium/vaseline glass. Might work for you too.

During the shabby chic days someone was remaking many of the older glass patterns in colored glass that was not original.

I suspect that might be what you have. Wait for others to comment. I might not be correct.

I am finding many of the exact style plate ID'd as LE Smith Heritage Line, just none in the Uranium glass like OP's. I tend to think it is legit as they made other pieces in this glass with the Opalescent edge. I am just not sure how much the Uranium glass enhances the value above others.

Thank you! Everyone's replies have been so helpful! And your research is wonderful..I think my research prowess has declined since I stopped buying and selling! I'm going to invest in another blacklight so I can confirm the presence of uranium and go from there. If I can't get a little more than the plain ones are selling for, I just may keep it.

Where can I find one in uranium glass with the opalescent edging? Would love to see it.

I think he meant black lights. You can buy just a bulb style now in the light section at Walmart.;)

    Not a problem. :)
Your local M&P hardware store and Ace or True Value may have the hand held ones.
Spencer Gifts is an option as well.

According to my LE Smith book (Felt), the company did not mark items prior to the early 1970's so that would be the earliest date for your egg plate. The mold number for your egg plate in the Heritage line was #567.

LE Smith did not produced a lot of opalescent glass but they make a try at opalescent colors in the early 1980's. Among the colors produced was a mint green opalescent in 1981-1982. There is a catalog photo for the color but it does not show an egg plate. It's certainly possible that some were made though.

I don't think the opalescent edge will add much to the value. Egg plates are not in much demand at the moment regardless of color.
