Help on identifying the content of this vintage gallon

Would you please help me on identifying the content of this gallon .
The gallon is completely closed with no cover , the only way to get its content is to punching it . The gallon size is 12 cm X 7 cm X 4 cm .

But iam keeping it as an antique gallon full with its content . i do not prefer to open it .

 

Without a second thought, I would take this item to the nearest hazardous waste disposal site. Without graphics, the tin would have no value, even if you did know the contents. JMO.

 

I second disposing of it at a hazardous waste site. There is no value here and someday it will rust through and could start a fire.

 

it's a vintage ice block for your cooler , i have one around here somewhere, freeze it and place it in your cooler for camping

A better photo of the label remnant in the upright position might give us some clues.

 

On the label I see "RIFIEE" with an accent over the first E. Anyone here know French or Spanish and can take a guess?

 

I am guessing at purifiee, french adjective.

 

Refined? A romance language, but not sure which. Going with my notion that it could be turpentine, French is terebinthine, with accents on first 2 'E's. Italian & Spanish are trementina. In case any label fragments show bits that could belong to 1 of these words.

 

Or motor oil? It is also purified/refined.

 

Did motor oil come in gallons?

 

Apparently the word "gallon" in "British" geographic areas is an amount different from "gallon" in the USA.

I "think" I just did the math correctly (did it by hand with pencil and paper) and found that this "gallon" container measures approximately 4.7 inches x 2.8 inches x 1.6 inches.

And some of my thoughts on the overall size of the object in question are borne out by the size of the thumb in the photograph(s).

If I am correct, Lloyd249, it would do little (to no) good to put it anywhere to cool down (or keep cool) anything.

Having dealt with many kinds of cans over the years I have some glimmer of hope. In the opening on top I see a second metal cap inside the pourer. I think that if you can pry that open you would have the opening. I have put many a can with these type of tops opened and closed.
