  1. Just wondered if anyone had any ideas if these carlton ware gollys had any value. Some of the pieces have trial on the bottom, not sure what that means. I will include Screenshot_20201125_182415_com.android.gallery3d.jpg Screenshot_20201125_182509_com.android.gallery3d.jpg some pics.

    Thanks in advance

They do have value; the dolls are still made and can be bought in the UK, but they are controversial items.

  3. Yeah I guess they are controversial in todays world. They weren't a purchase of mine just a find whilst working in a loft. I was unsure what the trial meant on the bottom and I was unaware they were still being made as one is called goodbye golly and I thought it was the last one they produced.

No judgement from me re. dolls, inflatables and what people do with them! I myself have admired a sculpture of Apollo or two for more than just workmanship ;)

this individual line of figurines might be retired, if that’s what your research tells you. I don’t think that they’ll have appeal to most ceramic collectors though, who are usually the ones to care about test samples and prototypes. Perhaps one will comment and tell you more. As for Golliwog collectors, they definitely exist. Even brand new collectables do well with them on the internet.

I used to save up paper inserts in Robertson jam jars to send in to get an enamel golliwog badge.

I think many of these collectors started with childhood experiences, Enid Blyton etc. I’ve met a few traders who collect and that’s how they started.
