Featured Dump rescue - 2 maple beds - how old?

Just pulled these out of the dump today. - they were sitting there leaning up against one of the big dumpsters - They were covered in dirt and grime. I threw one of them together and wiped it down with some murphy's oil soap. Here's bed number 1 - I think the right term would be 4 poster cannonball?Seems to be joined with pegs? - no screws or nails I can see except for where the side rails attach - which are obviously newer. The side rails are some other wood as well - maybe not original to the bed. Anyhow here it is:

Also, what size are the beds?Single, double, 3/4?

 

This one seems to be slightly larger than a double/full, but that's just eyeballing it. I need to take some measurements to be sure. And my dump is in Fredericksburg Virgina, US.

 

Said it before, say it again... What is wrong with people? Who would not appreciate?

Yep, is, 4 poster cannonball, Sheraton in maple looks like from pics, i'd guess 1830-1850. You SCORED! i'd say.

 

Schweeeeeeet! Even covered in gunk like it was I could see the pretty maple grain - I knew it was something worth taking home.

 

Well, you know, one mans junk is another's treasure!

 

Looks like cherry and walnut sprinkled in that bed too. In areas that aren't seen when the bed is made and against a wall.

 

Yes - the side rails on bed 1 are not maple, as well as the middle panel on the footboard. I'll get some closer up pics.

 

It seems period Sheraton as well, it has those pegs for a rope support system and looks like steel brackets were added later for mattress and spring set.

Wonder if those side rails were added to accept a newer set of box spring/mattres combo. Newer nuts and bolts on the hardware

 

Definitely newer hardware yes - especially the nuts and bolts. The brackets look pretty old.

 

I'm can't believe it either - but I'm glad they did - and glad I was there to snatch them up!
