    I'm not at all knowledgable about this sort of silver??? IMG_0080.JPG so I'm hoping someone can help. This beaker is nearly 3ins tall and in diameter. There are only these marks, no lion passant or date mark. The mark on the base appears to be the maker, the little star mark and vessel are not familiar to me, the octagonal mark (monarchs head) on the side may be a duty paid mark. It's had a hard life and was ignored (probably because it was battered and dirty looking) by several people today at the jumble/rummage sale. Bought for 10 pence so a real bargain. TIA

    Looks French to me. That lozenge shape, the grouping of the letters and symbols, and Cie.
    @Bakersgma will probably know.

    Cie. is French for Company, so maybe check French marks. Don't they use a Minerva head sterling mark?

    .800-.950, the fineness depends on the number in the cartouche of the Minerva mark.

    Re Minerva Yes, they do, thanks for that MOS. I didn't know Cie meant company.

    Check out Bouasse. Or maybe not. Looks like there was a jeweller Bouasse as well as a Bouasse the younger. Marque has same elements, different arrangement:

    Thanks AJ. I will look over the channel. I thought the head was an English George.

    Seems unlikely that Bouasse et Cie would use 'D & Cie' as their mark, and the orientation of the symbols should be consistent, since they're registered with a full description (star-above-chalice for Bouasse). Gaudin & Dubray used a chalice-above-star mark from 1901-14, and Achille Dubray used the same symbols on his mark from 1914-27, don't find reference to 'Dubray et Cie', but suspect that those symbols were probably later used either by a new firm belonging to Achille Dubray, or by a member of his family, though there is the possibility that the symbols may have been used in an earlier mark. Despite its aged appearance, if the engraving was done soon after manufacture, believe it is most likely 20th century - the very worn Minerva-head is in a clipped corner rectangle, so it's .950 silver, which is nice...

    Thanks very much. As I said I'm a bit clueless unless it's from uk. I had the head back to front too.
    I'll try and gently push out the dents.
    Thanks to everyone else too.
