Whatcha think? Mourning jewelry or just a regular photo locket? What type are the stones? THANKS!

It's a watch fob that was never engraved. There's no particular reason to think the individuals in the photos were deceased, but of course we can't know. There is nothing about the fob itself that makes it specifically for use by someone in mourning. :writer::turtle:

One is cornelian/carnelian, the orange-y color of chalcedony. The other is also fundamentally chalcedony, except in the form of some kind of agate or jasper. Jasper is opaque; hard to know with the stone in this setting whether or not it is translucent.

The darker side looks like moss agate or the like. The Victorians loved double-sided lockets and pendants.

That was my first thought too, but looking at the enlarged photo with just that one stone, decided it does not have the appearance of little branching threads embedded in near colorless material. There are also chalcedonies classed as 'dendritic agate', which also, as the name suggests, have tree-like inclusions. (My minerals guide tells me neither is technically agate.) This looks more jumbled to me. There is probably a descriptive common name for it; possible it is termed some kind of marble, as some jaspers are, e.g., Picasso marble. Could be something native to England or Scotland.

    Beautiful watch fob, kard.
I agree with Bronwen, 19th century watch fob, no mourning, carnelian and agate.
    Probably a similar one.
