I posted this in the Finds Thread, but maybe you could help me here, too. TIA.

I found these. I can't find anything like them on the internet. They are clear amethyst-colored beads, but in one section on each bead, they look like carnival or mercury glass. You can see how the section is facing the viewer in some of the beads and not in others..... seems to be in the glass, not a coating. It appears they were once a double strand, but someone connected them into one big necklace and put a new finding on. They are strung on older thread..... Mystery Carnival Beads.jpg

They are very pretty. Can't help with what kind of beads they are.

Curious, why does it appear they were a double strand? Are they tied together at some point?

What qualifies as 'older' thread & what leads you to believe that is what these beads are strung on? Seeing the clasp & how it has been attached would give more info, but what is visible in the photo is consistent with a fairly contemporary piece by a hobbyist crafts person. A search for 'beads purple iridescent' did not produce these exact beads among top results, but many that are similar.

    Hi Marko -
I have beads similar to this in pink. Strung the same with a little bead in between.
Because of the way they are stained with an iridescent coating, I have always thought mine were from the 1960s - 70s. Similar to the staining they did on wine glasses. If you wash or scrub too hard the stain wears off.

I think your beads may have had the coating on the whole bead. My pink ones do. Are there no beads that have a complete coating on them? They all have just one spot of iridescent?

I do not think these are current or from a hobbiest.
