I have a 1949 stamp collecting book, with a number of old stamps. Some are canceled, some are not, many are literally stuck into the book itself.

The previous owner wrote in that there are 224 stamps in this book, though I haven't actually counted myself... 62283A2A-2C71-4E66-9553-4E223F025856.jpeg

Does this / do these have any value?

    Thank you so much!!

Ahh, I had a book like this when just a lad....if only I could find it now !

What little I know is that once you glue these stamps to a page....any value they may have had is severely degraded..

I used to have one as a child with those cellophane pockets you could slide the stamps into.

I agree with komokwa. Any stamps adhered directly to the page will have no value. Same goes for any that are torn or damaged. Nothing stands out as special. I can't speak to the stock transfer stamps as I never collected them. Any mint (uncanceled) stamps with their gum intact will at least retain their face value, and can be used as postage. But you should sort them out and double check their value first. Any that are after WWII are unlikely to be worth more than face value.

Some stamps are valuable if they are misprints, also the amount of perforations can be important. I’ve got quite a few albums but there isn’t the collecting base there was though according to my local stamp shop but the rare stamps are still very desirable. There’s a lot of checking for you to do.

Uncanceled stamps still have their face value. They can be unglued with a solvent -- I use Bestine -- and reglued to correspondence.

Vintage uncanceled stamps can also be sold as a lot for craft projects.

My own observation is THE Benjamin Franklin 12 cent stamp. Looks to be a PERFORATION 10 on bottom. And either a perf. 12 or 11 on top. You have to measure the PERFORATIONS but if they are DIFFERENT than the stamp has value.

I inherited this same stamp book with a lot of stamps in it from my older brother. It's somewhere in the attic along with a shoebox or two full of stamps. He was stationed in Germany during the Cold War and bought stamps all over Europe and sent them to me. My mother also worked in the Harris Stamp Factory for awhile and used to bring stamps home. I never quite got interested enough so it's all just packed away.

Stamp collecting is like coin collecting. CONDITION IS EVERYTHING AND COLLECTOR ARE SUPER PICKY. GRADING AND CERTIFIED stamp usually get more attention and money.
